Music is My Language

On my way to work today, I was listening to one of my favorite songs in the whole world, "Perfect" by the Smashing Pumpkins and just smiling at life.  I have quite a collection of songs that I just can't do without.  For those of you who know me, I have a pretty eclectic collection of music and I have my favorites in each genre.  These are the songs that you can listen to a million times and never get sick of, the songs that will continue to make you smile and think time after time.  No matter if the songs are new or old, in-style or out, you will continue holding onto those songs forever.  Play that song again!

My Crazy Busy Life

Wednesday night, I went to see the musical 42nd Street with my mother-in-law and my sister-in-law, Mel at the Sacramento Music Circus.  I really enjoy the productions at the Music Circus.  They are always really well done.  This was no exception, with a compilation of famous broadway songs and some excellent tap dancing numbers.  It always makes me wish I had taken more dance classes.  I love to dance!
Yesterday I had off from work but it ended up being super busy.  Did I get to sleep in?  NO.  I had to take Mighty to the vet as he ended up eating a wasp and was having some kind of allergic reaction.  After an hour long process, we ended up having to buy doggie drugs to feed to him in which I have to chop his pills in half like some kind of drug addict.  Luckily he's feeling better now.  I also had to repair the dog fence twice because the dogs were getting out.  Throw that in with cleaning, going to the library, getting gas, going to the Chiropractor, and visiting teaching and I hardly had a relaxing day off.  I did manage to save two hours for myself and watched The Devil Wears Prada and scanned my photos with my new scanner (which is awesome...can I reiterate again?!)

Tonight we had a BBQ with some friends.  Aaron helped them do their yard when Yard Crashers re-vamped the whole thing.  It was really cool and Yard Crashers paid for everything.  They got their pool redone, a classy deck put in with fiber-optics, turf instead of real grass, and spa jets in the grass which form a fountain for their kids to play in.  It's a really fun backyard.  It will be on t.v. soon and we're hoping there will be a shot of Aaron working hard in the background.

I am so ready for Saturday!!!

27

This day started out like any other.  I woke up, worked out, showered, and then tried to do a nice hairdo so that I didn't look like a scrub but at the same time, I wasn't willing to put the time in.  Dang my laziness!  So I tried to do an elegant bun that looked retarded, which I ended up fiddling with for 20 minutes anyway.  Go figure.  Relaxed bun, I will master you!!

I ended up working on my birthday which a lot of people questioned.  Well, let's see....my birthday falls on a Tuesday....What else am I going to do during the day??  Some of my co-workers took me out to Vietnamese food for lunch, which was excellent I might add.  And it was nice to have my phone burning up with birthday wishes.

Aaron took me to one of my all-time favorite restaurants for dinner:  BJ's Brewery.  Aaron told our waitress that it was my birthday but thankfully, they didn't sing or make an embarrassing charade.  They did bring me out my own personal Pazookie with a candle though.  Something about a candle makes it feel like a birthday.  My gift from Aaron was true love as only true love can manifest:  a portable photo scanner.  Sounds dorky but it's exactly what I wanted.  I am truly turning into a memory keeping fanatic.  Picture a little device about 2x2x11 that you plug into the wall and you can scan pictures/documents up to 8 1/2 x 11 either onto your computer or onto a SIM card.  It's awesome!  I love technology!

This birthday was different than others for me.  I actually FEEL older.  Not healthwise because I'm in better shape than I have been in a long time, but something else.  I can't quite put my finger on it.  Let's just say I've been noticing that high school and college kids are looking younger and younger and it's like I realized, "Hey, I'm an adult".  I'm not talking about your early 20's when you're a young adult, but a real adult where high school and college kids view you as older or just plain old.  Is this what getting older feels like?  And by jingo, I'm starting to notice wrinkles!  I just hope I never lose touch and become some crusty old lady.   Ha ha.  It reminds me of a job I had one summer working with old people.  One of my co-workers said, "You wake up one day and you're ugly!" (I think that's a little extreme but it still makes me laugh) I do think that the stress in my life for the last year has taken it's toll.  I feel a little haggered, LOL.  (Can I type LOL on a blog??)  All that being said,  I still have a lot of ambitions and dreams that will one day be accomplished and I do love my life and where I'm headed.  I work hard but play hard too.  So I'll toast to another year!

Eat, Pray, Love

Tonight I went to see Eat, Pray, Love with some friends.  I actually enjoyed it which surprised me because the previews I had seen were pretty bad.  I read the book a couple of years ago and loved it!  It's interesting that it means something different to me than it did then.  Isn't that interesting how your perspective changes.  What really captured my attention in the movie was the comment made that Americans do not know how to enjoy doing nothing/relaxing.  We feel guilty about it.  In this book/movie, Liz Gilbert starts out as a typical American woman, trying to control life and her emotions but yet is searching for some inner peace.  She is very uptight and learns to relax and find balance in her life as she learns meditation and how to quiet her mind.  It got me thinking....am I like this?  How often do I get to sit and do absolutely nothing and not feel guilty about it??  That's the clencher!  I have a lot of inner guilty self-talk apparently.  But the Italian lifestyle inspired me.  It's the same in France.  "They work as hard as anyone; they just know when to quit".  Life is about letting some things go.  If I don't clean the house one day or dinner doesn't get made, it doesn't matter in the long run.  What matters most are the moments that pass us by while we're participating in the drudgery of life.  I love books/movies that make you think!!

Disneyland again!!

As many of you know, Aaron and I go to Disneyland quite a bit.  Aaron surprised me last weekend by taking me there.  There were a few different things about this trip.  We watched Captain EO for the first time since I was like 5 years old.  Let me just tell you....it was so 80's!  I loved it!  As I was watching Michael Jackson, I kept seeing Janet's face.  Aaron said he still hasn't established that they were two different people.

We brought the Camelbaks.  Aaron and I both now have our own hydration systems.  Sounds dorky but in August, in the sun, it's a necessity.  Plus the water stays really cold so you're not drinking nasty lukewarm water.  So I have the mini size of Aaron's Camelbak.  I love it!

We had the opportunity to watch the new "World of Color" show at California Adventure.  The actual show was kind of cool but what an ordeal it was to get in there.  You have to get a fast pass in the morning for the show.  Your ticket then says to return within a certain window of time about 30 minutes before the show.  You return to the place where you got the fastpass ticket and they literally hold you in an area like cattle until whenever.  We happened to be under the bridge of the Grizzly RiverRaft ride and it leaked.  So imagine it being cold; you're tired, and you've got water dripping on you.  Did I mention you're standing?  Then they funnel you into all these roped off areas where you wait for the show.  Did I mention you're standing for the show????  Then the show is like 30 minutes or longer (we left early) where you're roped off and trapped between all these people.  (You can imagine Aaron's panic)  The show to me was a glorified Bellagio show from Vegas except that there were Disney characters but there really wasn't a story like Fantasmic.  I was trying to see how it all connected.  We were at the 11:15 p.m. show and our feet were dying.  By that time, you don't care what's happening.  I still like Fantasmic better but if you go see it, you decide.....
